An encounter between Luke and [[Darth Vader]] leads Luke to a troubling discovery about his and Leia's parentage. If the encounter does not end in his capture, he is left badly injured to represent the blow, and for a long period he is unavailable for missions or for any command post.<ref name="manual-p92" /> [[Leia Organa]]'s Force potential can be discovered only after she learns of the heritage from Luke (see [[The Force]]).<ref name="manual-p93" /><br />

The manual says that when all of these hold, Vader sets out to seize Luke and deliver him to the Emperor:<ref name="manual-p93" /><br />
* Luke knows his heritage;<br />
* Luke has a high enough Force value;<br />
* Luke is captured;<br />
* both Vader and [[Emperor Palpatine]] are uncaptured and neither is traveling or on a mission.<br />

A loss leaves Luke a prisoner of the Emperor. A win frees him and makes the Emperor and Vader his captives, whom he takes to a friendly system or fleet. The manual states that Luke is much more likely to win if his Force value is high.<ref name="manual-p93" /><br />
