The Star Wars Rebellion Editor (also called SWR Editor.NET, and the 25th Anniversary Rebellion Editor in the SWRebellion menu) is an open-source editor for Star Wars: Rebellion made by Metasharp. It is written in C# for .NET and published on GitHub.[1] It is a different program from the older DOS editor SWRE and from RebEd.
Features
According to the project README, the editor offers:[1]
- A galaxy map editor with drag-and-drop for sectors and systems.
- Editors for sectors, systems, characters, units and buildings, with no length limit on names and encyclopedia text.
- Replacement of system pictures by dragging in a 37×37 bitmap.
- Editable initial-setup, general and side parameter tables.
- One-click export of game resources: bitmaps, sounds, videos, 3D models and data as CSV files.
- Patch tools, including a "Test Patch" folder for custom content, and a picture format converter.
25th Anniversary Community Patch
The editor also distributes a patch for the game. The README lists:[1]
- Game update 1.02, the DgVoodoo DirectX wrapper and Microsoft's D3DRM.DLL.
- Two galaxy maps: one compatible with existing saved games, and one with more accurate star positions (the two are not save-compatible with each other).
- 20 new sector names and 200 new planets with names, encyclopedia entries and sprites.
- New character, unit and capital-ship sprites, 30 new capital-ship encyclopedia entries, 29 new capital-ship 3D models, 80 new fighter sprites and 16 remastered music tracks.
Supported game versions
The README lists the GOG 1.0 older installer, the Steam version and the GOG 1.0 v4 installer, in that order of preference for DgVoodoo compatibility. Update 1.02 applies to the older GOG and Steam versions but not to GOG 1.0 v4.[1]
Game file notes
Readme files shipped with the editor (build 3.0.9371.42195) document where the game keeps its graphics:[2]
- Encyclopedia pictures (400×200) are in
EDATA. - Character build pictures (80×80) and unit fleet sprites (61×25) are in
GOKRES.DLL. - Strategy-map sprites are in
STRATEGY.DLL; system sprites are 37×37. - Tactical 3D models (DirectX
