History

The Viscount marks an important step forward in starship design. The class was conceived to answer the rising danger posed by the Galactic Empire, and Star Destroyers in particular. Heavy weapons and strong shields were meant to make the Viscount-class a tough adversary in large space battles, able to take on the most powerful warships the Empire fielded. Its creation reflected how much larger and fiercer the Galactic Civil War was becoming, since the Rebel Alliance and other factions wanted stronger vessels to contest Imperial dominance. During this turbulent era the Viscount-class helped shift power in space combat.
