Starting characters are the characters each side has at the beginning of a game of Star Wars: Rebellion.[1]

Core characters

Each side starts with seven core characters.[2] On the Alliance side, Mon Mothma begins at the Alliance headquarters system, and six others begin together on Yavin: Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, Leia Organa, Wedge Antilles and Jan Dodonna.[3] The manual's chart of beginning Alliance characters says the same, with the headquarters on a different outlying system each game.[4]

The Empire's seven are Emperor Palpatine, who is always on Coruscant, plus Jerjerrod, Ozzel, Piett, Veers, Needa and Darth Vader, each of whom is placed at random on a system or fleet the Empire holds.[3]

The manual gives the size of a starting force as about seven characters.[5] It also suggests, for the Empire, assigning Jerjerrod to command the starting fleet because of his leadership and combat skills.[6]

Alliance skill notes

The manual's chart summarizes the starting Alliance characters this way:[4]

  • Leia: strong in diplomacy and leadership.
  • Luke: strong in combat, with some espionage and diplomacy skill; a Force user whose skills can grow (see The Force).
  • Han Solo: strong in espionage, combat and leadership; the chart also mentions a bounty on him.
  • Wedge Antilles: good in combat, espionage and leadership, and also able to research ship design.
  • Chewbacca: good in combat and espionage.
  • Jan Dodonna: a mix of combat, leadership and diplomacy.
  • Mon Mothma: exceptional leadership and diplomacy.

Extra characters

Beyond the core characters, each side also receives randomly chosen characters, placed at random. The manual gives the same counts under two sets of galaxy-size names. The characters chapter gives the counts as 1, 2 and 4 for standard, large and huge games respectively.[1] The tutorial chapter gives the same counts, 1, 2 and 4, but names the galaxy sizes small, medium and large.[3]

Recruiting more

Each side has 30 possible characters, 60 in all.[5][1] Further characters join through a Recruitment mission.[1] The game data divides the 60 into six Major characters and 54 Minor characters.[7][8]
