The manual of Star Wars: Rebellion describes installing the game from its CD-ROM on Windows through an Installer program.[1]
The Installer
After the player closes other programs and inserts the CD, the Installer appears if Autoplay is active. Otherwise it is opened by running the Autorun.exe file on the CD from My Computer.[1] Its options are:[1][2]
- Install: installs the game on the hard drive; the button becomes Reinstall once installed. The manual says to reinstall if components were deleted, a file was damaged, or to change the installation size, for example from Minimum to Maximum.
- Play: starts the game.
- Uninstall: removes the game.
- View Readme: recommended for the most up-to-date information.
- Troubleshooting Guide: detailed installation and troubleshooting tips.
- Install DirectX: installs DirectX 5.0 if it is not present, or reinstalls it to update or replace drivers.
- Exit: returns to the desktop.
Installation steps
The player chooses a destination folder; the default is a LucasArts\Star Wars Rebellion folder under Program Files, and another drive and directory can be given. The player then picks an installation type: Minimum, Typical (the default) or Maximum. After files copy, the setup offers optional shortcuts, including one to the LucasArts Web page, and a Start menu program folder whose default name is LucasArts\Star Wars Rebellion.[2]
When installation succeeds, a Setup Complete screen appears with a chance to view the Readme. Setup then offers to install Microsoft DirectX 5.0, which the manual says is necessary to run the game; the option stays unchecked if DirectX 5.0 is already detected.[3]
Trouble installing
The manual points to the Troubleshooting Guide, reached by opening the CD's Installer and choosing Troubleshooting Guide.[3]
Running the game
With Autoplay active, the Launcher appears when the CD is inserted, and the player selects Play. Without Autoplay, opening the CD drive from My Computer brings up the Launcher. The game can also be started from the Star Wars Rebellion shortcut on the Start menu.[3]
