Tutorial
The Tutorial is Chapter 2 of the Star Wars: Rebellion manual. It consists of a series of mini-missions, numbered 1 to 5 in the manual, that teach the game's controls and displays step by step, and how the parts of the game relate to one another.[1]
Format
The chapter uses screenshots that may not match the player's screen exactly, because the game begins differently every time. The manual notes that the game runs in real time rather than in turns, so an opponent may appear during the tutorial. If a Battle Alert screen appears, the manual suggests choosing the option to simulate results and not worrying about the outcome.[1] Four mini-missions are played as the Alliance and one as the Empire.[1][2][3][4][5]
Mini-missions
| Mini-mission (topic) | Side | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Starting a game and surveying the galaxy | Alliance | Installing and starting the game, setting new-game parameters in the shuttle, the C-3PO briefing, agent advice, pausing, the Galactic Information Display and its menu, Sector windows, and the Manufacturing and Production and System Defenses windows.[6][7][1][8][9][10][11] |
| 2. Expand Your Maintenance Capacity | Alliance | Reading the resource monitors, counting mines and refineries, choosing where to build them, giving build orders in the Manufacturing and Production window, directing the agent droid to build, and adjusting game speed. It shows how mining and refining raise manufacturing capacity.[2][12] |
| 3. Winning over neutral systems | Alliance | Using diplomatic missions to win neutral systems: choosing a target system, locating and examining characters (including with the Personnel Finder), sending them on missions and monitoring the results.[3][13][4] |
| 4. Expand the Known Galaxy | Alliance | Finding Longprobe Y-wing Recon Teams, changing their base, building more, sending them on reconnaissance missions, building troops, finding a capital ship to carry them, checking mission status and garrisoning unpopulated worlds.[4][14][15][16][5] |
| 5. Take Over Some Systems | Empire | Playing the Empire: analyzing fleets, choosing fleet bases, building shipyards, training yards and units, assigning personnel to command, raising maintenance capacity, picking neutral targets, moving fleets, planetary assault and dealing with uprisings.[5][17][18][19][20][21][22] |
Alliance and Empire parts
The first four mini-missions are played as the Alliance; the first two start by clicking the Alliance icon in the Shuttle Cockpit.[8][2][3][4] The fifth starts by clicking the Imperial icon. The Imperial Command Center has the same features with different graphics, and IMP-22 and SD-7 replace C-3PO and R2-D2.[5][17] The manual notes in mini-mission 5 that Imperial reconnaissance uses probe droids rather than Longprobes.[20]
Conclusion
The manual says the mini-missions isolate key strategic features so the player can learn concepts separately. It describes Chapter 3 as a reference on strategy-game commands and concepts, and Chapter 4 as covering the Tactical game.[23]
