The Reconnaissance mission is a mission in Star Wars: Rebellion that explores a system and reports what is there. It is carried out by special forces, not by characters.[1]

Targets and participants

Any system outside the sending side's control can be targeted, explored or not, and no other mission is able to reach an unexplored system.[2] Two unit types may carry it out: Longprobe Y-wing Recon Teams and Imperial Probe Droids.[2] The manual describes the Longprobe as one of the Alliance's SpecForces and notes that some are often available at the start of a game.[3] After the player picks the unexplored target, the Create Mission window offers Reconnaissance as the only choice, and the unit begins as soon as it arrives.[4]

Information revealed

The report covers what is built there, the military units, resources, loyalty and the controlling side. It leaves out characters and special forces present, and the Manufacturing window's data is not revealed. The same information comes back whether or not the system is populated.[2] The encyclopedia lists controlling side, facilities, fleets and ships, and trooper regiments.[1]

Alternative

A fleet cannot be sent on the mission itself, but a fleet that moves to an unexplored system learns the same details. Unlike a recon unit, it stays there instead of returning.[5]
