The Rebellion Fix (also Star Wars: Rebellion Community Fix v2.63.1.0) is a community patch that makes Star Wars: Rebellion run reliably on modern versions of Windows. By October 2026 it had been downloaded more than 5,000 times from swrebellion.net.[1]

What it does

According to the download page, the fix provides:[1]

  • performance improvements for modern systems;
  • Windows compatibility updates, from Windows XP to Windows 11;
  • graphics fixes using the dgVoodoo wrapper (v2.63.1) for better stability;
  • a higher-resolution game icon;
  • network port settings for multiplayer.

It replaces four files in the game folder: REBEXE.exe (game version 1.02), DDraw.dll, d3drm.dll and D3Dlmm.dll.[1] Notes in the fix package add that its REBEXE.EXE is labelled 1.02 but built on 1.00 for stability, and that it reads its DLL and MDATA files from the install folder.[2]

Installing

The current version is a batch script and PowerShell pair: download install_swrfix.bat and install_swrfix.ps1 to the same folder and run the .bat file, which downloads and patches the game and offers several options.[1] Some antivirus programs flag the installer as a trojan; the download page says this is a false positive.[1]

For a manual install:[1]

  1. Back up the game folder (the one that contains REBEXE.exe).
  2. Copy the four patched files into it and replace the originals.
  3. Add -w to the end of every game shortcut (or to Steam's launch options). The patched game needs this flag; without it, it may not start correctly.
  4. If needed, set REBEXE.exe to run in Windows XP (Service Pack 3) compatibility mode as administrator.

Typical game folders are C:\GOG Games\Star Wars - Rebellion (GOG), …\steamapps\common\Star Wars - Rebellion (Steam) and C:\Program Files (x86)\LucasArts\Star Wars Rebellion (original CD).[1]

Skipping the briefings

The patched game can no longer skip the long introduction briefings. To remove them, delete or rename ALBRIEF.dll (Alliance) and EMBRIEF.dll (Empire) in the game folder.[1]

Steam

Steam may overwrite the patched files when it verifies the game's files; if problems persist, verify through Steam and then apply the patch again.[1][3]

Multiplayer ports

For multiplayer, the download page lists these ports to open in the firewall:[1]

Program Protocol Port
dplaysvr TCP and UDP 47624
REBEXE TCP 2300
REBEXE UDP 2350

The installer's own instructions give a wider TCP/UDP range of 2300–2400.[4]

Credits

The patch files are credited to TruthRealm and distributed with permission; the installer app was made by Stratus.[5] Support is offered in the #game-support channel of the SWRebellion Discord.[1]
