Maneuvers and tactics are preset orders that give ships more autonomy in the Tactical game of Star Wars: Rebellion. The manual groups them with missions, and they are assigned from two screens: one for maneuvers and tactics, one for missions.[1]

Assigning orders

The player first selects a ship (left-click), several ships (CTRL plus left-click), a task force, or a fighter group. Next, the Maneuvers and Tactics button, or alternatively Select Missions, opens the matching panel, and orders apply to everything selected. Orders take effect only after the checkmark button is clicked, and the X button cancels.[1][2] To cancel the current orders, the player opens the Maneuvers or Mission panel, deselects the chosen orders and confirms.[3]

Maneuvers

A maneuver sets the approach vector toward a target, much as Navigation points set a path. Maneuvers are relative to the targeted enemy ships, or to all enemy ships if no targets are chosen.[1] The panel shows a graphic of the vector for the chosen maneuver.[2]

  • Left Hook sends the unit around the targeted ships' left side.[2]
  • Right Hook does the same on the right side.[2]
  • Hammer goes around the top.[2]
  • Anvil goes around the bottom.[2]
  • Hold Position stops the unit in place; it makes no attempt to maneuver around its target while the order stands.[2]

Tactics

Tactics set the engagement range and basic strategy.[2]

  • Surround forms a spherical formation and has ships close in on the target at very short range.[2]
  • Stand Off forms a line abreast, uses a weapon range advantage if there is one, and otherwise keeps out of the opponent's tractor beam range. It is the default tactic.[2]

Missions

A mission lets ships and fighter squadrons choose their own enemy targets, which the manual presents as useful for giving local control while the player handles the larger picture.[2]

  • Attack Capital Ships flies at the most dangerous capital ship until it is destroyed, then picks the next most dangerous.[2]
  • Attack Fighters attacks only fighters, continually engaging the most dangerous squadron until all are gone.[2]
  • Recover (fighters only) returns fighters to their carrier to dock; recovered fighters take no orders for the rest of the battle.[2]
  • Attack Death Star (Alliance fighters only) sends fighters on an attack run at the Death Star. It can be tried only if the Death Star is present, no Death Star shield generators are on the system, the Death Star is not under construction, and the Alliance has more fighters launched than the Empire. A single fighter group can attempt it at a time.[2][3]
  • Escort is called very important by the manual, which presents it as the top method for shielding large ships against fighters. The player selects a task force, fighter group or ship and right-clicks a friendly ship. The escorts surround it and fire at nearby enemies as chances arise. A white box marks the escorted ship.[3]
