TSGUIDE.TXT
From SWRebellion Wiki
TSGUIDE.TXT is a short text file from LucasArts that stands in for the full troubleshooting guide of Star Wars: Rebellion. It is headed with the LucasArts name and the date 2/23/98.[1]
Purpose
The file explains that the game launcher normally opens the troubleshooting guide in Wordpad, because the guide is too large for Notepad. The launcher loads TSGUIDE.TXT only when it cannot find Wordpad.[1] The readme likewise sends players to the online troubleshooting guide, reached through the launcher.[2]
Instructions in the file
- To read the guide with Wordpad, open it from the Start menu (Programs, Accessories), then use File, Open to load
TSGuide.docfrom the root of the game CD or from the install folder.[1] - If Wordpad is missing, the file gives a numbered procedure of twelve points: open the Control Panel from the Start menu and Settings, then Add/Remove Programs, choose the Windows Setup tab, select Accessories and then Details, tick Wordpad, confirm, and supply the Windows 95 CD when asked, entering the CD-ROM path if Windows cannot find it.[1]
In the patch package
The English and French folders of the GOG patch package each contain both TSGUIDE.TXT and TSGUIDE.DOC.[3] The contents of the .DOC guide were not read for this article, so its troubleshooting topics are not described here.
