Gameplay tips on Force growth and game events
Gameplay tips on Force growth and game events summarizes two sections of the official "Rebellion - Gameplay Tips" web page for Star Wars: Rebellion: the one on Force growth and Jedi training, and the list of events that the game generates by itself. See LucasArts Rebellion website (2004 archive) for the site.[1]
Force growth
According to the page, Force-using characters raise their attributes and heal faster than other characters. Once strong enough they can detect and foil enemy Force users and spot traitors among their own side. The page names five levels of Force growth, with approximate thresholds:[2]
- Novice (10 and up)
- Trainee (20 and up)
- Jedi student (80 and up)
- Jedi Knight (100 and up)
- Jedi Master (120 and up)
The numbers are never shown in the game; they only indicate how long the next level takes. Each Force growth message gives the character one point of Force growth and also raises leadership, combat and espionage.[2] The 2001 RebEd FAQ gives different cut-offs; see RebEd FAQ (2001).
To detect Force users, a character must be on the same planet as Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader. Darth detects them at once, while Luke can do so only after he reaches Jedi student level, which usually happens after his return from Dagobah. Force powers rise through Jedi Training missions with Luke or Darth and through other successfully completed missions. To train a Jedi, the player selects the character together with Luke or Darth and targets a friendly planet; Luke has to have reached Jedi Knight level before he can train others.[2]
Galactic and system events
The page defines game events as situations created by the game itself, outside the player's control. For instance, characters taken to Dagobah or Jabba's Palace cannot be retrieved until they come back on their own.[3] The intervals below are as printed on the page.
- Natural disaster: may occur every 1–400 days; loses resources, energy and facilities.
- Resource events: may occur every 1–500 days; new resources are discovered.
- Prisoner escape: may occur every 1–30 days.
- Uprising: a garrison revolts against its controller, which can mean lost facilities, escapes of captured characters, capture of opposing characters, and loss of the planet if the uprising is not dealt with.
- Informants: possibly every 30–100 days on a planet with low loyalty to its controller, more often if smuggling or uprising occurs; they reveal information about the system to an opponent.[3]
Character events
- Injury: possible whenever a character must evade capture or meets another character. The character must recover on a friendly system, cannot take missions or command military units meanwhile, and an injured minor character has a 25 percent chance of being killed.[3]
- Hidden Force ability: a minor character with hidden ability who is assigned to a mission with Luke, when Luke's Force value is 80 or higher, assumes his or her base Force value.[3]
Luke Skywalker
- Dagobah: an event that comes after between 100 and 1,000 days, provided Luke is not on a mission, and increases his Force abilities.
- Encounter with Darth: the first meeting reveals that Darth is Luke's father. If Luke is captured with Force above 60, Vader delivers him to the Emperor, which starts the Final Battle; below 60 he is treated like any other captive. At any meeting where Luke is not captured, his Force rises by 25 percent.
- Final Battle: with Force below 100 Luke is captured and injured; above 100, Vader and the Emperor are captured.
- Encounter with the Emperor: if Luke is not captured, his Force value rises by 20 percent.
- Evasion bonus: his Force rises each time he evades capture.[3]
Han Solo and Leia Organa
- Bounty hunters: every 1 to 100 days there is a 30 percent chance of an encounter. If the hunters succeed, Han Solo is taken to Jabba; if they fail, they tell the Empire where he is.
- Jabba's Palace: while Han is held there, Luke, Leia and Chewie are compelled to attempt a rescue on their own. Missions already under way finish first. If they fail they are captured, and if all three are captured they are taken to Vader. If the rescue succeeds, Han is released, and other characters attempting his rescue abort their missions.
- Millennium Falcon: when Han belongs to a mission or traveling group that contains no special forces, every character in the group gets a +50 hyperdrive modifier.
- Leia's heritage: after Luke learns that Vader is his father, and while he is on a mission with Leia, her heritage and Force ability come to light, and her Force is set to 10. Once she is Force capable, meeting Vader or the Emperor raises her Force by one, and evading capture raises it by one.[3]
The Emperor
The page lists one event for Emperor Palpatine, named Seat of Power: while he is at Coruscant, the leadership attribute of every Imperial character rises by 50 percent.[3]
