Hosting a multiplayer game in Star Wars: Rebellion means creating the game that the other player then joins. The host chooses Setup Game on the Multiplayer Configuration screen after selecting a connection type.[1] See Multiplayer for the overall process.

Host Game screen

On the Host Game screen the host types a player name or nickname, which defaults to the Windows 95 user name if left blank, and a game name, which defaults to the computer's name. The right-arrow button continues to the Multiplayer Options screen, unless the game is a direct modem or serial game. The left arrow goes back and the X button cancels to the Shuttle Cockpit.[2]

Modem games

A host of a direct modem game selects a modem device from a pop-up list. The manual recommends leaving the modem settings at their defaults. The host clicks Answer to wait for the opponent's call, and when the call arrives the game proceeds to the Multiplayer Options screen.[2]

Direct serial games

A host of a direct serial game chooses the COM port matching the serial port that holds the null-modem cable, usually COM 1 or COM 2. The manual recommends the default baud rate, stop bits, parity and flow settings. The manual refers readers to the Troubleshooting Guide and the LucasArts support Web site for help with setting up and testing a serial connection.[3]

After hosting

At the Multiplayer Options screen the host chooses the side, galaxy size and victory type and can chat with the joining player, as described in Multiplayer.[4] For Internet games, see Internet Gaming Zone for the manual's steps for hosting over TCP/IP.
