History

Bespin, famous for Cloud City, was a major site for mining and refining tibanna gas. Lando Calrissian, the Baron Administrator of Cloud City, tried to preserve the city's independence and wealth. The authoritarian regime, however, took notice of the strategically valuable site and raised its military presence there. Calrissian responded by negotiating and maneuvering through the city's politics, and ended up allied with the regime, though not comfortably. Throughout this, local Ugnaught workers kept performing their essential function in running the city, helping to extract and refine the precious tibanna gas.^[1]
