The Command Center is the main control screen of Star Wars: Rebellion, where the strategic part of the game takes place.[1]
Reaching the Command Center
A game begins in the Shuttle Cockpit, where the player chooses the parameters of the game. The player picks a side by clicking its icon, and the shuttle then flies to that side's headquarters and delivers the player to the Command Center.[2] The cockpit also offers a galaxy-size selection, a head-to-head option, a way to load a saved game, a credits view and an exit. A Headquarters Only Victory option shortens a game by requiring only the capture or destruction of the opponent's headquarters. Easy, Medium and Hard campaign levels are also set here, with Easy as the default.[3]
Layout
The Galactic Information Display dominates the screen as a map of the galaxy. On the Alliance side the advisor C-3PO gives a briefing, and the message droid R2-D2 collects reports from across the galaxy; the Empire side has IMP-22 and SD-7 in the corresponding roles.[4][5] These two droids are described in a separate article.
The manual identifies the following information displays:[1]
- the title of the current Galactic Information Display, which explains what the star sizes mean;
- the number of days since the game started, which keeps advancing whether or not the player gives orders;
- a message notification area showing which kinds of unread messages are waiting;
- the resource monitors, which show raw materials, refined materials and maintenance capacity;
- the Window Reference Bar, which holds up to 12 minimized windows in slots;
- the legend for the star sizes, opened by double-clicking its icon.
The galaxy is divided into sectors of ten systems each, and the smallest game has 10 sectors while the largest has 20.[4]
Controls
A Control Panel of buttons around the message droid lets the player focus on one aspect of the galaxy, such as a particular system, character or troop.[4] The manual's labeled screenshot of the Command Center covers the map display, the in-game encyclopedia, game speed, locating systems, saving and loading, and finders for fleets, troops and personnel.[6] See Game options for the speed, finder and save/load controls.
The Command Center has the same features on both sides, though the graphics and droids differ.[5]
