Droids
In Star Wars: Rebellion the player has two droids, also called agents, that help monitor the galaxy: an agent droid and a message droid. The Alliance's pair is C-3PO and R2-D2, and the Empire's is IMP-22 and SD-7.[1]
The agent droid
C-3PO (Alliance) or IMP-22 (Empire) supplies galactic information, assists with the game's controls, and renders the message droid's electronic noises into speech. Some routine tasks can also be handed to it.[1] Right-clicking the agent opens the Agent menu, which the manual describes as follows:[1][2]
- Build Ships, Build Troops and Build Facilities: a shortcut for ordering construction on a chosen system. After the player clicks the target system with the crosshair cursor, the standard Build Selection window opens, and the agent finds the nearest idle yard able to do the job.
- Galaxy Overview: shows how many facilities, troops and fleets the player controls.
- Game Objectives: shows which victory conditions each side has met.
- Manage Garrisons: when checked, the agent tries to meet garrison requirements.
- Manage Production: when checked, the agent tries to get the best yield from mines and refineries.
- Translate Counterpart: on by default; the agent translates the message droid.
- Agent Advice: on by default; the agent gives gameplay tips through the message system.[2] The manual also notes that the advice appears only in Easy games unless it is enabled on the Agent menu.[3]
The manual's overview says players can hand garrisons and production to the agent, but cautions that it will not necessarily play better than the player and may manage resources differently than preferred.[4] It also repeats that right-clicking the agent offers shortcuts for managing production and tracking resources.[5]
The message droid
R2-D2 or SD-7 reports whenever something happens in the game, for example a system changing sides, a troop or facility being completed, or a mission ending. The agent translates the announcements. The player can open the Display Message Index by choosing Messages from the droid's right-click menu, by left-clicking the droid, or by pressing F6.[2]
Messages are sorted into tabs for loyalty, fleet, mission, resource, manufacturing, defense, conflict, chat and advice messages. Advice messages are the only category not also listed under All Messages.[6] A Post Messages Silently button on a tab stops the droid's sounds for that category.[7]
Message alert bar
The Message Alert bar sits on the right of the screen, or the left for the Alliance, and lights an icon for each category that has waiting messages. Clicking an icon opens the Display Message Index at that category's tab.[7]
Limiting messages
Right-clicking the message droid and opening the Message Alerts submenu lets the player limit which categories the droid reports. By default all categories are reported.[7]
