The Rebellion Refreshed and Reloaded Ultimate Package is a 2007 community package for Star Wars: Rebellion that modernizes the game's executable and lets the standard game and the Reloaded mod be installed side by side on Windows XP x64 and Windows Vista. The readme names its author as Budious.[1][2]
Package versions
The readme files describe the release as "Beta 1" and are dated July 8, 2007.[1] The archive in the SWR download folder is named "Reb_Refresh_Package_Beta1.2 with vcl30 added by Ant", which suggests a later revision with an added vcl30 file; the readme files do not mention that change.[3] The readme's own stated purpose is to allow the two installations to coexist, with support for Windows Vista x86/x64 and Windows XP x64.[1]
Rebellion Refresh features
The "Rebellion Refresh" part of the package changes REBEXE.EXE as follows:[1]
- A new 48×48, 32-bit icon for Windows XP and newer systems, credited to Mad78.
- Performance changes that let the executable read its DLL and MDATA files from the installation folder.
- An application manifest for Vista's User Account Control.
- A version label of 1.02, although it was built on version 1.00 for stability.
The same wording appears in the notes of the Rebellion Fix package, whose REBEXE.EXE is labelled 1.02 on the same basis.[4]
Rebellion Reloaded features
The "Rebellion Reloaded" part applies the same icon, loading, and manifest changes to RELOADED.EXE, with an icon credited to Budious. This executable uses its own registry branch under Software/LucasArts/Star Wars Reloaded (the readme writes the hive as HKLU) and is labelled version 2.00, again built on 1.00.[1] The readme thanks the Rebellion Reloaded team for their total conversion.[1]
Installation notes
The readme says this release only provides a framework of technical modifications. A standalone installer for XP x64 and Vista x64 is listed as a future feature, and the status section says the package works on the author's own machines and needs extensive testing.[1]
- x86 users install the game from disc, add the Reloaded total conversion beta following its own readme, rename the install folder to "Star Wars Reloaded", merge
Reloaded_x86.reg, and swapREBEXE.EXEforRELOADED.EXEthere. The game is then reinstalled from the disc at maximum size, the disc's MDATA folder and DLL files are copied in, and the patchedREBEXE.EXEreplaces the original. On Vista,d3drm.dllis copied to both folders.[1] - x64 users follow a similar order but place both games under
Program Files (x86)and mergeReloaded_x64.regandRebellion_x64.reg.[2] - CHANGES.txt lists the manual full-disk steps: point the
DllLocationandTooBigLocationregistry values at the install folder, copy the disc's Rebellion folder there, create aSaveGamefolder, remove a 1.00 or 1.01REBEXE.EXE, and move the 1.02 one in.[5]
Archive contents
The archive's file list shows the following parts:[3]
Rebellion 1.02\REBEXE.EXEandReloaded 2.00\RELOADED.EXE, plus a copy ofd3drm.dll.- Registry files for each setup:
Rebellion_x86.reg,Rebellion_x64.reg,Reloaded_x86.reg,Reloaded_x64.regandOriginal_x86.reg. - Two editor folders, described below.
ReloadED and unpacked RebEd
ReloadED 0.26r (build 001, July 10, 2007) is a modified copy of RebEd 0.26 that edits the Reloaded mod. It requires Reloaded to sit in C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Star Wars Reloaded with the matching Reloaded registry file merged. Its readme says its limits are unknown and that its functions are assumed equal to RebEd 0.26, and that it was to be folded into later package releases.[6] The RebEd_0.26_unpacked folder holds RebEd 0.26 with its original Delphi compression removed. The readme says the compressed file was smaller but could not be hex-edited, whereas the unpacked file can, and it was the base for ReloadED.[7] Both folders include a DllEntries.txt file (see DLLEntries.txt).[3]
