History
The Imperial I-class Star Destroyer is among the best-known emblems of Galactic Empire military power. These enormous warships were central to an Imperial strategy of imposing control and spreading fear throughout the galaxy. Carrying numerous weapons, along with many TIE fighters, stormtroopers and assorted ground vehicles, the class performed well in fleet engagements and in land assaults alike. After the Death Star was destroyed, these Star Destroyers were crucial to Imperial attempts to suppress the Rebel Alliance and hold on to the galaxy. Their imposing presence in many battles showed that the Empire relied on overwhelming power and superior technology to reach its goals.[1]
