An uprising is a state in which the population of a system revolts against the side that controls it in Star Wars: Rebellion. The manual describes it as an armed response to that side's presence on the system.[1]

Causes

A controlled system may go into uprising when the garrison is too small to meet the system's garrison requirement.[1] Systems taken over by force are especially prone to them, since the manual says control gained with troops may lead to uprisings and that newly conquered systems are especially prone to them when too few troops are left behind.[2][3] The manual also warns that pulling troops off a weakly loyal system can start an uprising.[4]

Effects

During an uprising:

  • Production on the system stops, and certain missions there fail.[1] Construction time estimates assume no uprising, because building is suspended while one is under way.[5]
  • The system yields no raw materials, refined materials or maintenance points, and its facilities cannot be used. Resources are also lost to smuggling, which helps the opposing side.[3]
  • The garrison requirement rises sharply; elsewhere the manual states that it doubles.[1][6]
  • The controlling side loses more popular support the longer the uprising continues.[7]
  • Characters on the system can be injured or killed, and troops and characters risk capture or death.[3][1]
  • A Diplomacy mission can be sent only to systems that are not in uprising, and one already under way ends if the system goes into uprising.[8]

If an uprising lasts too long, the controlling side can lose both troops and facilities there, can lose control completely, and the system could end up on the opposing side.[3][1]

Seeing uprisings

In the Sector window, a system in uprising carries a flame-shaped icon in its lower right corner.[1] The loyalty messages tell the player when a system goes into uprising.[9] On the Galactic Information Display, the Uprisings view marks the systems concerned, and a keyboard command switches to it.[10][11][1] Informants on enemy systems are more common where an uprising is under way.[8]

Ending an uprising

The manual gives two ways to quell an uprising on a controlled system: reinforce the garrison or dispatch a character on a Subdue Uprising mission.[1] The tutorial suggests choosing a character with good leadership skills.[3] The mission can go only to a friendly system in uprising. If it succeeds, the uprising is suppressed and popular support on the system rises, though much more slowly than with diplomacy.[12][13] The character asks after each report whether to continue, and keeps trying until the uprising has ended.[14]

The agent's Manage Garrisons option builds troops for systems in uprising before any others.[4] For the Empire, merely having a Death Star available makes its garrisons more effective at preventing uprisings.[15]

Inciting uprisings

A character can also try to stir up an enemy system by going on an Incite Uprising mission.[1] The manual states that this mission targets an enemy-controlled system. It can reduce the enemy's popular support, makes it more likely that enemy troops and facilities are destroyed during the uprising, makes injury to enemy characters on the system more likely, and improves the chance that a captured friendly character escapes.[16] After each report the character asks whether to continue, and the mission runs until the system has changed control.[14]
