The Galactic Information Display (GID) is the map of the galaxy that fills the main screen of the Command Center in Star Wars: Rebellion. It is the primary source of information about the galaxy.[1]

Stars and colors

Each system appears as a star, and the galaxy is divided into sectors of ten systems each.[1] The star's color shows who controls the system: red for the Alliance, green for the Empire, blue for neutral, and gray for unexplored. The manual explains that a gray star means the player has no information, so the system might be neutral, empty of population, or already settled by the enemy.[2] A system can support one side while being controlled by the other, for example a large green star showing an Empire-controlled system that supports the Alliance.[3]

The star's size shows how much of the chosen item is present on that system. In the construction-yard display, for instance, the smallest star means no construction yards and larger stars mean more of them. A legend, opened by double-clicking its icon, explains the sizes.[2]

Choosing a display

Clicking the Galactic Information Display control opens a menu of displays, with a checkmark on the current one. The default display is Popular support.[4][5] The manual lists these groups:[4][6]

  • Loyalty: popular support, and the locations of systems in uprising.
  • Fleets: idle fleets and fleets en route. Star size reflects the number of fleets at, or heading for, a system.
  • Personnel: idle personnel (not in a command post or on a mission) and active personnel (on a mission or in command).
  • Resources: energy availability, raw material availability (remaining mine sites), mines and refineries.
  • Manufacturing: shipyards, training facilities and construction yards, each with an idle-only variant.
  • Defense: planetary batteries, planetary shield generators, fighter squadrons, troops and Death Star shields.

For the Alliance, the Death Star shield display is only as accurate as the last information received; a shield not discovered by informants or espionage does not appear.[6]

Sector windows

Clicking a sector opens a Sector window, which shows each system in that sector color-coded by controlling side, with an overview of its resources and popular support and icons that open further windows.[7] The manual states that at the start of a game this window is reliable only for the resources, popular support and production facilities of core systems; defenses, troops, personnel and ships are likely inaccurate or incomplete. Control and popular support in core systems stay current.[7] A player may have only two Sector windows open at once, and they cannot be moved or minimized.[8] The Sector window also shows available raw materials, mines and energy spaces.[9]

Display off

The Display Off option removes the legend display of individual systems and shows a mass of galactic matter instead. Choosing any other display turns it back on.[10]
