Editor.NET export folders and CSV files

From SWRebellion Wiki

The Editor.NET export folders are the folders shipped with the Star Wars Rebellion Editor (.NET), one for each kind of game resource. Build 3.0.9371.42195 includes readme files that say where each kind of picture lives in the game files, and CSV files holding game data.[1]

Folder layout

The build contains these folders: buildings, capital ships, characters, fighters, game-update, interface, medias, missions+events, special forces, systems, tactical-ui, test, troops, units+stats and units-stats, plus two palette files (strategy-dll.act and tactical-dll.act). Most hold subfolders named after the game file the pictures come from, such as EDATA, GOKRES.DLL, STRATEGY.DLL and TACTICAL.DLL.[1] The game-update folder holds, among other files, D3DImm.dll, d3drm.dll, DDraw.dll, REBEXE.EXE, REBEXE-FULLSCREEN.cmd, dgVoodoo configuration files and links to the dgVoodoo site. The units+stats folder holds template bitmaps for characters, fighters, ships, special forces and troops. The test folder's readme says to place files there to patch them into the game.[1]

Where pictures are stored

Folder Item Location in game files Size
systems Encyclopedia picture EDATA 400×200
systems Strategy sprite STRATEGY.DLL\Bitmap 37×37
systems Tactical sprite TACTICAL.DLL\303 256×256
characters Encyclopedia picture EDATA 400×200
characters Build sprite GOKRES.DLL\Bitmap 80×80
characters Event sprite STRATEGY.DLL\Bitmap 400×200
characters Info sprite STRATEGY.DLL\Bitmap 25×25
characters Tactical sprite TACTICAL.DLL\Bitmap 32×32
units-stats Fleet sprite GOKRES.DLL\Bitmap 61×25

Further notes from the readmes:[1]

  • Transparent areas use the color of the lower-left pixel, except for character info sprites, which have a gray background and no transparency.
  • For systems, pictures are centered inside the frame. The authors' convention is 180×180 for giant gas planets, 150×150 for planets and 120×120 for moons in encyclopedia pictures, and 37×37, 35×35 and 31×31 for strategy sprites. Tactical sprites must use the colors of the tactical-dll.act palette.
  • In capital ships, TACTICAL.DLL\301 holds the DirectX .x models and \303 holds starfighter sprites and capital-ship textures. Two models must not share one texture, or the game crashes at the end of tactical battles.

Music notes

The medias\MDATA readme lists numbered tracks 300 to 315. Each entry names a source labelled e4, e5 or e6 with a track or medley title and time ranges within it; some tracks combine several excerpts.[1]

CSV files

Data tables are exported as semicolon-separated text with a header row, and records end in CRLF line breaks. Text fields containing line breaks are quoted.[2]

  • capitalships.csv has 53 columns and, in this build, 30 data rows. Columns include Id, ProductionFamily, IsAlliance, IsEmpire, RefinedMaterialCost, MaintenanceCost, ShieldStrength, Hyperdrive, HyperdriveIfDamaged, turbolaser, ion cannon and laser cannon values for each arc and range, Hull, FighterCapacity, TroopCapacity, Name and EncyclopediaDescription. Unidentified fields keep placeholder names such as Field2_1.
  • sectors-accurate.csv and sectors-compatible.csv each have 12 columns and 20 rows (Id, Group, GalaxySize, XPosition, YPosition, Name and others).
  • systems-accurate.csv and systems-compatible.csv each have 15 columns and 200 rows, including SectorId, PictureId, XPosition, YPosition, Name and a multi-line EncyclopediaDescription.

The "accurate" and "compatible" pairs differ in coordinates; the first row of each file shows different positions for the same sector or system. The two files in each pair differ only in their XPosition and YPosition columns.[2]
