History

Hoth became strategically significant. The Rebel Alliance wanted a hidden base where it could elude the Empire, so it established Echo Base on a distant world of ice. Hostile weather and isolation made the planet a perfect refuge for Rebel operations. Despite the remoteness, Imperial scouts searched the planet and eventually found the base, which led to a large clash called the Battle of Hoth. After heavy fighting the Alliance was compelled to pull out and give up the base, and Hoth returned to its barren state, with little bearing on the wider conflicts of the galaxy.^[1]
