Joining a multiplayer game

From SWRebellion Wiki

Joining a multiplayer game in Star Wars: Rebellion means connecting to a game that another player is hosting. The player chooses Connect to Game on the Multiplayer Configuration screen after selecting a connection type.[1] See Multiplayer for the overall process.

Connection information

Depending on the service provider, a dialog may ask for connection details before the Join Game screen appears.[2]

  • TCP/IP: for Internet play the player enters the IP address of the hosting computer, which the host has to supply. On a TCP/IP LAN the box is left blank, and DirectPlay searches the local network for hosts.[2][3]
  • Modem: the player enters the host's phone number, picks a modem device from a pop-up list and clicks Connect to dial. When connected, the Join Game screen appears.[3]
  • Direct serial: the player picks the COM port connected to the null-modem cable, usually COM 1 or COM 2, and the manual recommends the default settings for baud rate, stop bits, parity and flow.[3]

Join Game screen

On the Join Game screen the player types a name or nickname, which defaults to the Windows 95 user name, and selects the game to join. The manual notes that only one game name is usually listed unless others are playing on the same LAN. The right-arrow button continues to the Multiplayer Options screen, the left arrow goes back and the X button cancels to the Shuttle Cockpit.[3]
