Traitors
Traitors are characters in Star Wars: Rebellion whose low loyalty gives them a chance to betray a mission they are sent on.[1]
Loyalty
A character's loyalty rating, like a system's, is tied in part to how much support the player has across the galaxy. The player cannot examine a character's loyalty directly.[1] Loyalty is one of the Character skills.[2]
Key characters have strong loyalty that does not waver. Some secondary characters may become traitorous, and a traitor sent on a mission may betray it.[1]
What changes loyalty
Victories improve loyalties, since they track how the game is going. The manual lists these as affecting the odds of a betrayal:[1]
- the Rebel headquarters being destroyed;
- Coruscant passing into or out of Imperial control;
- ships, fighters or troops being destroyed in battles, assaults and bombardments.
Dealing with traitors
A character strong in the Force can help uncover traitors in the player's party (see The Force). When a character on a mission is found to be a traitor, the manual says retiring that character through the right-click menu is often best. If most characters turn traitorous together because the player is losing, the manual suggests leaving them idle in the hope that the game improves and they become less traitorous.[1]
Characters in command roles do not betray the player, even with low loyalty (see Command ranks).[1]
Game data
In the vanilla v1.02 data, the IsUnableToBetray flag is set for all six Major characters and for three of the 54 Minor characters.[2][3]
