Gameplay tips on characters and mission requirements
Gameplay tips on characters and mission requirements summarizes the tables and troubleshooting notes on characters, special forces and missions from the official "Rebellion - Gameplay Tips" web page for Star Wars: Rebellion. See LucasArts Rebellion website (2004 archive) for the site, and Missions for the full mission list.[1]
When a character cannot do a mission
The page's checklist for a character or special force that cannot take a mission:[2]
- An injured character cannot perform missions or hold a rank until healed.
- A captured character is unusable until rescued.
- The target selected must be the right one for the mission.
- The character's attributes must allow the mission at all.
If a mission is possible but rarely succeeds, the page names three causes. Low attributes for that mission lead to a Failed result. Too many defenders at an enemy location lead to a Foiled result. When a player tries to win over a neutral planet, the other side may be doing the same.[2]
Missions by characters
The table is the page's list of what each character mission targets and who may attempt it.[3]
| Mission | Target | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Reconnaissance | none | Cannot be done by characters |
| Espionage | Planet | None |
| Diplomacy | Friendly or neutral planet | None |
| Incite Uprising | Enemy planet | None |
| Subdue Uprising | Friendly planet in uprising | None |
| Abduction | Enemy character | None |
| Assassination | Alliance character | Empire characters only |
| Sabotage | Any non-friendly facility, troop, special force or ship (not the Death Star) | None |
| Death Star Sabotage | Death Star | Alliance characters only |
| Recruitment | Friendly planet | Alliance: Luke, Leia, Han, Mon Mothma. Empire: Darth, Emperor |
| Ship Research | Friendly planet with a shipyard | Character must have ship research |
| Troop Research | Friendly planet with a training center | Character must have troop research |
| Facility Research | Friendly planet with a construction yard | Character must have facility research |
| Jedi Training | Friendly planet with Force-aware characters and either Luke or Darth | Alliance: Luke plus a Force-capable character. Empire: Darth plus a Force-capable character |
Missions by special forces
The page lists each special force with its targets and missions.[4]
- Alliance. The Longprobes (Longprobe Y-wing Recon Team) do Reconnaissance on a planet. The Bothans (Bothan Spies) do Espionage on a planet. The Guerillas (Guerrillas) Incite Uprising on an Empire or neutral planet and Subdue Uprising on an Alliance planet in uprising. The Infiltrators are listed against Empire characters, Empire or neutral facilities and ships, Empire special forces, the Death Star and captured Alliance characters, with the missions Abduction, Death Star Sabotage, Troop Sabotage and Rescue. The page does not pair these targets with missions one for one.
- Empire. The Probe Droid does Reconnaissance on a planet and the Espionage Droid does Espionage on a planet. The Imperial Commandos do Sabotage on Alliance or neutral facilities and ships, Alliance special forces and troops; Incite Uprising on Alliance or neutral planets; and Subdue Uprising on an Empire planet in uprising. The Noghri Death Commandos do Abduction and Assassination against Alliance characters, and Rescue of captured Empire characters.
Attributes behind each mission
Each mission relies on a different character attribute, and a higher value means a better chance. A character with zero in the relevant attribute can still try, with a very low chance of success. The table assumes the team is not stopped first by detectors such as troops and fighters or by commanding characters at the location.[5]
| Mission | Value used |
|---|---|
| Abduction | Combat of the character attempting minus Combat of the character to be abducted |
| Assassination | Combat of the character attempting minus Combat of the target |
| Diplomacy | Diplomacy of the character minus the planet's loyalty to the other side |
| Espionage | Espionage of the character |
| Incite Uprising | Leadership of the character minus loyalty to the other side |
| Subdue Uprising | Leadership of the character minus the planet's loyalty to the other side |
| Recruitment | Leadership of the character minus loyalty to the other side |
| Rescue | Combat of the character |
| Sabotage and Death Star Sabotage | Average of the character's Combat and Espionage |
| Jedi Training | Character must be Force capable |
| Ship, Facility and Troop Training Research | Character must have the matching research skill |
Decoys
A decoy draws attention away from the characters doing the real mission. A decoy must be able to do the mission itself, and the page suggests someone with a good Espionage value. To set it up, the player holds Control and clicks every person involved, opens Mission from the right-click menu of one of them, switches to the decoy tab at the top right of the Create Mission window, moves the chosen people to the right-hand column, and returns to the first tab to check the mission type before accepting. The page warns against large teams: two or three people slip into an enemy location more easily than ten.[6]
Officers and captures
The page says Admirals, Generals and Commanders improve their groups: Admirals speed up fleet reactions in tactical battles, Generals strengthen troops in assaults and defense and boost defense facilities, and Commanders make fighters more effective in tactical battles and can be assigned to fighters in a system. They also help detect and foil enemy missions, so leaving a character in a command post on a planet is not wasted.[7] A character can be captured without any Abduction mission when the enemy tries a mission on a well-defended planet (for example troops with a General) and is foiled. A captured character can be moved only with an escort from one of the player's own characters.[7]
